Meg's Diary

Chats, Chesley B., and PD10 Trailer Winners!

How glued to your TV were you all afternoon yesterday? Having three New Yorkers visiting me (and He Who Shall Not Be Named In This Blog and I being displaced New Yorkers–though not by birth since we’re both Hoosiers), we could not take our eyes off the live coverage of Flight 1549’s landing on the Hudson River!

Although you didn’t have to be a New Yorker to be impressed by this:

It was truly amazing to see all those people standing on those airplane wings, then getting whisked to shore by all those ferries.

After the coverage was over, we all went to El Meson de Pepe for paella and mojitos and toasted the pilot, Chesley B. “Sully” Sullenberger, his co-pilot, the crew, and all the many ferry and cruise boat captains as well as the NYPD and NYFD and everyone else who rushed to the scene after the plane landed to get those people out of the freezing water.

It was fantastic to see so many people behaving so selflessly. Kind of like…Greenpeace! (How’s that for a segue?) Here’s a sweet note from Greenpeace about last week’s event at the NYPL that I just had to share. It made me well up a little. Oh, Greenpeace! You and your little arctic foxes make me want to give you a great big hug!

You can bid on this Greenpeace tiara Here!

But that and the Rescue of Flight 1549 weren’t the only things that made me want to cry (in a good way) this week. This review of Forever Princess from YA Newyork almost made me wail like a baby. Did I say almost? Reader, I wept.

Anyway, BIG NEWS! There’s going to be a live chat on Sunday! Yes, THIS SUNDAY, January 18, at 2PM EST! Come here and we’ll discuss Forever Princess (and Ransom My Heart too, if you want, although Mia won’t be able to attend since it’s my understanding that she’ll be heading back to her dorm at that time).

Don’t come if you haven’t read the book though! There will be SPOILERS!!!!

In other site-related news, Janey’s been hard at work adding videos to my new video page!

So check them out, and prepare to be dazzled by my many varying hairdos over the years. Janey just added the address I gave at Indiana University last November upon receiving the 2008 CAS Distinguished Alumni award, as well as a few others (videos, I mean, not awards)!

The gold dress by Michael Kors which I wore to the Alumni award ceremony.

The gold dress in more detail. Why, yes, I did in fact have to stuff my bra to make it fit! Thanks for noticing!

Speaking of videos, here’s some other BIG NEWS! We have our winners in the Forever Princess Trailer contest!

Let me tell you, it was really hard to choose a winner, because ALL the entries were so good. I had to ask for help from Janey, my agent, publicist, and friends in making the final decision.

But in the end, we finally agreed unanimously:

In second place, here’s a brilliant piece by Sarah. Kudos to Sarah for such a fantastic, funny portrayal of a princess torn between her royal duties and social life. She really captures Mia’s zany voice here:

And finally, here’s first place winner Hillary’s entry, which just sums up Forever Princess perfectly, and basically rocks to the core. I love the many details found only in the books, like Fat Louie’s attachment to sparkly things, Mia’s writing in the ladies room, the third floor stairwell, and of course, Dr. Knutz. “If you like it then you should have put a ring on it” indeed. Kudos, Hillary, and thanks:

Honorable mention to Jessica, just because I think this video is so adorable.

Thanks to both Sarah and Hillary, and to everyone who entered….You’re ALL winners in my opinion. Well done!

See you at the chat on Sunday (hopefully)!

More later.

Much love,

Meg
