Meg's Diary

One More Day….*

…until we post an excerpt from Forever Princess on megcabot-staging.htnwbil5-liquidwebsites.com (and Mia Thermopolis posts an excerpt from her book Ransom My Heart on www.miathermopolis.com).

The posts will go up on Wednesday, November 5.

Yay!

Well, what did you THINK I was going to say it was one more day until? VOTING? HA HA HA!

I already voted. It was a snap! Yes, there was a line, but it went pretty quickly, and everyone in the line was in a good mood. We all had a nice time chatting about the wait and how cool it was to see people actually voting for a change (I’ve never had to stand in line to vote in Key West before. Never. Ever).

Here are some tips for those of who haven’t voted yet to make your voting experience easier. I got these from MSNBC so it’s not like I’m just making them up:

1) Check to make sure you’re registered to vote! You never know, slip-ups happen. Here’s an easy way to check: Just go here.

www.canivote.org is also a great place to check where your polling place is, what hours it’s open, and whether or not you need to bring ID. (Florida, Georgia, and Indiana all require photo ID! So don’t forget to bring it along.)

2) Do not wear buttons or shirts supporting your candidate of choice to your polling place when you go to vote. You aren’t allowed to wear stuff like that within a hundred feet (or yards or something…I forget, but it doesn’t matter) of the polling place. So leave it at home or cover it up!

3) How to avoid the long lines?

This is a real line to vote in Oklahoma.

There may be no way to do it. But as I know from when I volunteered at my polling place back in Indiana, lunchtime is always busiest. So maybe don’t go between noon and two if you can avoid it. On the other hand, on Tuesday, when more polling places open, the lines may not be so bad. Still, it’s never a bad idea to go in the morning.

But honestly, voting is fun, and people are upbeat about it, so if you bring a good book and some snacks, the time will go fast.

What book do I recommend you bring along? Why, one of my all time favorites, Thonyhold by Mary Stewart, of course! It’s a romantic thriller about a young woman who may or may not be a witch (she doesn’t know yet), set in 20th century England. I was asked to write the forward to this beautiful new edition, and I couldn’t have been more excited, since Mary Stewart is one of my favorite writers:

Did you know Mary Stewart’s maiden name was Rainbow? I’m not making this up! One more reason you’ll love this book (that’s a tidbit I reveal in my foreword)! This book always makes me cry (in a good way).

What’s especially nice about it is that it’s about a very intelligent young person who wants to make change for the better in her community. Hmmmm…sounds like someone I know!

Okay, that’s it for now. NaNoWriMo has started and I’m on page…0! Yes, 0! Because I’m still doing Being Nikki revisions. But I’ll catch up with you all! Oh, yes, I will. Wait and see. (Yeah, OK, probably not. Carry on without me. But I’ll be trying to catch up!)

Don’t forget to vote! Don’t let this be you!

More later.

Much love,

Meg

*Actually I guess it’s two more days until we post the excerpts. I need to eat more protein in the morning. Oh well.
