Meg's Diary

Beauty Blog

Greetings, gentle readers. There’ve been many goings on since I last blogged, none the least of which is that, as I write, I am waiting for my Clairol Nice ‘n Easy Root Touch Up to soak in. This is what happens when your hairstylist goes on vacation for the month of September. You are left to scrounge on your own through the hair aisle at CVS.

What color will my roots be by the time He Who Shall Not Be Named in This Blog’s oven timer dings? Who knows? According to the box, dark auburn, which I hope will match will match my new red hair.

Anyway, for those who are interested, if you click on the Big Boned cover on the homepage of this site, it will take you to the official Big Boned web page, where you can read your first excerpt from the book, as well as the 9/12/07 Publishers Weekly review of the book. Enjoy!

In other news, according to the October Allure, my beauty product Bible, if I had started applying Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Cream SPF 15 in my twenties, I wouldn’t be feeling so bad about my neck (like writers Nora Ephron and Anne LaMott do). Apparently, lab tests show this product takes years off faces (and necks). A little cream now, or a lot of worry later, girls. I wish I’d known then what I do now.

Guess what? I’ll be live chatting on October 1st at Readergirlz, the awesome online book club started by Justina Chen Headley, whose incredible book, Nothing but the Truth (and a Few White Lies), we read for the Meg Cabot Book Club! Readergirlz has teamed up with YALSA (Young Adult Librarian Services Association) to present an amazing month long author experience for YOU! For the entire month of October, they’ll be featuring a live author chat EVERY SINGLE NIGHT! Check out some of the fantastic authors they’ll be featuring there (and download their poster advertising the event to place on YOUR site–it comes in multiple sizes)!

Meanwhile, back to beauty: I was psyched to see that Allure appointed three of my all-time favorite beauty products to their Hall of Fame:
Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizer

Great Lash Mascara

And of course, Cetaphil

You seriously can’t go wrong with any of these things. Only the Clinique is pricey, but so, so worth it.

For those of you who live in the US and are bemoaning the fact that The Princess Diaries 2008 Yearbook is only available in the UK market, fear not! Now you can win a copy just by clicking here. Remember, many, many sign up—but only five win. Still, you can’t win if you don’t play! And yes, people really win. I freaking pack up and ship the prizes myself.

I one hundred percent don’t have time to tan anymore (but when I used to, I did wear sunscreen) so I use this instead:

It smells weird and leaves stains on my white towels and between my fingers, but they come off with soap so I don’t care. It also comes in a “firming” formula now. I don’t know what it’s supposed to firm but I put it on my butt just in case. My butt has never seen the light of day but soon it will be tanned and firm. I’m workin’ it.

This weekend in the Boston Globe, the Sunday Fun Page was devoted to yours truly. I don’t have a link to prove it, nor have I seen it myself, but I’m told it’s true. Maybe someday I’ll be able to show you, and also post a photo of the incredible kids who made it happen. They’re so cute!

So, regarding the new Fall shows: Saw Chuck. It was okay, but I didn’t love it. Saw Gossip Girls. Now that I loved! Can’t wait for Reaper tonight.

But I’m most psyched about this movie they keep showing on the Encore Love channel called Firelight

about a poor governess this rich Englishman hires to have his baby. Hubba hubba! Why can’t that just be on every single night? As a double feature with The Outsider

starring Tim Daly (only the uncut version they only play on Showtime, not the version they show on the Hallmark Channel) about a wounded gunfighter nursed back to health by a sweet Amish widow. So hot! If they made a couple of TV series based on those two movies, then showed Gossip Girls and The Office every night and renewed Buffy, then my TV viewing life would be complete.

In the meantime, I have to go rinse, because the oven timer just went off…wish me luck!

More later.

Much love,

Meg
