Princess Diaries 9, Princess Mia

I see that the Harper Teen website has put up the Princess Diaries 9 cover (even though last time I talked to Harper, they told me they were redoing this cover…oh well), so I guess it’s OK for me to put it up, too!

(No, Mia doesn’t go to China in this book. But she does order—and eat–a lot of Chinese food from Number One Noodle Son now that she is no longer a vegetarian, with alarming results.)

Here’s the flap copy, too, since it’s already up on some online retailers.

Flap copy is what they put on the back of the book. I like to write my own flap copy. Sometimes my publishers use my version, and sometimes they write their own. I’ll post what I wrote, and then I’ll post what they wrote (you tell me whose is better, wink, wink).

Book 9 starts about an hour after Book 8 ends, so if you haven’t read book 8, you might not want to read this….

Extra, extra, read all about it:
Princess Mia of Genovia is single at last!

Mia Thermopolis has hit a new all-time low: Her best friend isn’t speaking to her. Her grandmother’s counting on her to get her into the world’s most exclusive women’s society. Someone is posting horrible things about her on ihatemiathermopolis.com. And, oh yeah: Her longtime boyfriend has just dumped her.

But despite what the New York press seems to believe, this princess has more on her mind than recruiting a new Prince Charming, including finally snagging some self-actualization for herself, and–thanks to Grandmere–solving a four-hundred-year-old royal mystery that’s about to set Mia on a one-woman mission that could bring BIG changes to the little principality of Genovia.

But is Mia really ready to get rid of her tiara…especially if it means destroying a dynasty?

US Publisher’s Flap Copy:

A Princess On Her Own

Mia has been invited to speak at a gala for Domina Rei, an elite society of powerful business women. But what could she possibly have to say? Now that Michael has broken things off, Mia can barely get out of bed, and her parents are making her see a therapist. School–where Lilly still refuses to speak to her, and Lana suddenly wants to be bff–is a total nightmare. Even J.P.’s efforts to cheer Mia up (he’s being really sweet) aren’t helping. What’s a royal to do?

Just when things couldn’t worse, Mia uncovers an old family secret, a long-forgotten diary of a teenage princess of Genovia. It could be just the thing to help Mia write her speech…but it might also change the fate of the Renaldos forever.

So, there you go. You read it here first! Princess Diaries 9, Princess Mia, will be out on December 26, 2007, or thereabouts.

Keep in mind that Book 10, Forever Princess, is the last book in the series (because Mia dies, of course)

Ha ha, just kidding. She just graduates from high school. Maybe. If she doesn’t flunk out.

Seriously, like JKR always intended Harry Potter to end when Harry turned 17 or whatever, I always intended the Princess Diaries series to end with Mia’s high school graduation and prom, so Book 10 will be the end.

I fully expect people to show up at midnight at the bookstore on December 26, 2008, to get their copies of FOREVER PRINCESS. I realize it might be a bit cold at that time of year to camp out overnight. But you could at least jot it in your calendars.

Don’t forget to wear your tiaras!

More later.

Much love,
