NOT Written from Chateau Marmont

I'm writing this from sunny Los Angeles!

Everything really is better when you're sitting on a sun-drenched balcony with the Hollywood sign in the background, it turns out. For instance, I hardly even remember anymore that it has been TWENTY DAYS since I last my husband or cats, and that I have FIVE MORE TO GO before I get to see them again.

Fortunately I have iPhoto so I check to see what they look like periodically so I don't forget.

Anyway, I've been having the grooviest times at my events—thanks to my many awesome readers, including San Francisco native Diana, who brought me TaB and some excellent CDs, and Jenn, who, along with her friend Patrick, wrote me a very nice letter.

Then I was on to Vancouver, where the air was crystal clear and sunny and I got to hang out (for too short a time) in a foreign country (well, foreign to me) with brilliant author Susan Juby, see Linda Hamilton walking down the street (yes, she of Terminator, but more importantly, Beauty and the Beast fame—and yes I did used to write Vincent fan fiction, shut up), and do a signing—all in the space of less that twenty-four hours. Many thanks to reader Rachel for the adorable fairy doll, and to reader Shira for the nice letter and the Vancouver clip (Shira, I can't believe English wasn't your first language, you speak and write it so well)! Thanks also to Tamara for the cookies. My Spanx are starting not to fit, you guys pamper me so much!

Back in the US, I was a little disappointed to hear that a writer smackdown did not occur when pro-chick-lit author Jennifer Weiner met anti-chick-lit author (who, if you ask me, actually writes chick-lit) Curtis Sittenfeld at a scheduled event that I'm sure had the entire chick-lit community wondering if there'd be any flying Manolos (fyi, I am on Jennifer's side).

Apparently no one stabbed anyone else with their Jimmy Choo, which is disappointing for gossip mongers like myself, but hardly surprising, since Jennifer is, in fact, a lady.

Being on a book tour is fun and all, and of course I am grateful to have the opportunity to meet so many readers and order so much room service. However, every time I am on a book tour I miss events by OTHER authors who are on a book tour, such as Jennifer Weiner and Anna Quindlen. And that kind of sucks.

Oh, also, I keep missing all the new shows that are coming on, like HEROES and JERICHO and the season premieres of shows I want to see, like THE OFFICE and that other one, I forget—oh, yeah NOT Gilmore Girls as that show is still dead to me and by the way I read the season spoilers and if you guys want to go on torturing yourselves that's totally your business, but might I suggest you come to my book signing Tuesday night instead?
