Meg's Diary

Reader Good News

ACK!

I am crazed at the moment with revisions for Princess Diaries 8 (now officially titled PRINCESS ON THE BRINK); proof pages for HOW TO BE POPULAR (proof pages are the actual book pages the publisher sends you to check over for mistakes before they go to press); various other author-ly chores, like recording a podcast and doing interviews; and some home repair stuff too awful even to get into. I barely have time to watch EVERYDAY ITALIAN, let alone blog.

Although I did find time to read this excellent essay collection:

Well, okay, I haven't had time to read ALL the essays yet—just Susan Juby's, which is hilarious–but based on what I've read so far, I urge everyone to grab a copy of this funny little book. You won't be sorry.

In any case, it's a good thing so many of you wrote in with good news of your own to share. Because basically, you've all written my blog for me today…which is excellent news for me!

Now, without further ado, readers share their good news:

READER GOOD NEWS:

GOOD NEWS FOR PEOPLE WHO HATE ALGEBRA:
Ok, this is good news for…umm….me? And people who despise/aren't good at Algebra. Well, still, mostly for me. I got a B on my Algebra test!!! My second B all year! As opposed to….not B's. VERY not B's. Very much less than B's. Hehehe. Math just doesn't like me. Numbers….are….not fun. At all. Unless you happen to be counting chocolate. Or something else cool/fun/yummy. Yes indeed. Thanks for reading this.–Abbie R. 14, Wisconsin (Yay! Wisconsin. Is it odd that I've lived here all my life but I can't stand cheese? Or bacon? Or….apple pie?)

Congrats, Abbie!—Love, Meg

GOOD NEWS FOR FANS OF PENGUINS:
Here's some good news about the parents of the stolen baby penguin, Toga, they had had a new chick! They don't know what sex it is yet, but I bet they're all really happy on the Isle of Wight!–Tamsin, UK

Yay! Great news, Tamsin, thanks!—Love, Meg

GOOD NEWS IN THE BATTLE AGAINST BREAST CANCER:
You said you were looking for good news so here's some: Today my school had a Breast Cancer Walk and our students and teachers raised $40,000 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Love, Maureen

That is FANTASTIC, Maureen! Thanks for sharing!—Love, Meg

GOOD NEWS FOR PEOPLE WHO HATE PUBLIC SPEAKING:
I wanted to tell you that because of you, I got my first A in public speaking because of you, something which I HATE DOING!!!!! I like choke up and die….ugh its like watching a train crash. Anyways we were supposed to be an oral interpretation and we could pick whatever piece we wanted, and I chose Mia' essay on the ten women she looks up to most, and since I love that book I read it out loud and didn't even get nervous, because it was like reading to myself.

I thought that was good news, because now you can be like, by reading my books you can get in A in your public speaking class or whatever!”

Sarina

Wow, thanks, Sarina! I'm glad my books helped, but you really got that A all on your own!—Love, Meg

GOOD NEWS FOR ANYONE WHO IS STRESSED AT SCHOOL RIGHT NOW:
The work really does pay off. I'm a sophomore in high school, and I've already received eleven letters from colleges, offering information about their school, and test-taking strategies, and financial aid information and stuff like that.—Sarah

Yay, Sarah! Yes, hard work does eventually pay off. Thanks for sharing!—Love, Meg

GOOD NEWS FOR A READER:
The good news is… I just received 2 new books in the mail – both by Meg Cabot. So now I have more to read. My college reading assignments will now become secondary.
Karla

This is good news for me, but I hope not bad news for your grades, Karla!—Love, Meg

GOOD NEWS FOR SIMPLE PLAN FANS:
So I don't know if you heard of this band I love – Simple Plan – but anyway I recently saw them at Nottingham Rock City (yes I'm an English reader) and not only did I catch the Guitar pick of Sebastian, but also DAVID! Again if you don't listen to them you'll be wondering what on earth I'm on about, but I just love them and now I have their picks! Also as I play the guitar so obviously yay I can now play with their picks. X X X Becky.X X X
(P.S good news for another dude that went they let him come up ON STAGE to actually play the drums for the song – Welcome To My Life)

Congrats, Becky! That sounds PERFECT (sorry, Simple Plan humor)—Love, Meg

GOOD NEWS FOR RESIDENTS OF THE USA:
I'm really excited because I got accepted into this summer leadership program to get a college credit, and I just started high school!!!! It's a step closer to my aspiration to become President. Dorky to be excited, yes, but still.–Kanika

You already have my vote, Kanika—Love, Meg

GOOD NEWS FOR EVERYONE:
Hey! Last night on the news I saw a really neat story. There was an autistic boy who had helped out with his school's basketball team for four years. It was their teams last game. The coach let the boy suit up to play the last home game. They let him play, and he scored 6 three-pointers! The team won the game and they all celebrated. I thought this was a pleasant change from all the bad news!
Just thought you would like it!
Meagan H., 17, North Carolina

Thanks, Meagan! This story was sent by many readers. The boy tied his school record for most points in a single game. So yay for him, too!—Love, Meg

GOOD NEWS FROM AN ACTUAL MALE READER:
Hi Meg:
Good news for all who like disguising. It's carnival!!!!! Yes, so if you are shy, these days you could do a lot of things that you can't do usually. And me (I'm a 17 years old boy from Spain) I'm going to disguise myself of Prince, well, in Spain we don't have prince charming, we have blue prince (don't ask me why, I think it's 'cause we say kings have blue blood) so I'm going to dress myself totally of blue, without any special cloth, in carnival you don't need to spent a lot of money, and with a crown: easy and original.
Kisses–Iñigo

Thanks, Inigo! Have fun in your costume!—Love, Meg

GOOD NEWS FOR MULTI-TASKERS:
Dear Meg,

Well, at first, last week seemed to be the bane of my existence. With only a few days till I started school again, I still had to:
1. Finish reading a 700 page book for my English class, and write a report on it.
2. Retype a twelve page report for the upcoming science fair
3. Find out a way to fix the Microsoft Word Software on my laptop so I could do numbers one and two.

I suppose fate meant it to be that everything would fall into place really fast.

On Thursday, day before Science fair, I ran as quickly as my 5 inch flip flops would allow me to over to my neighbors house to re type my science report. Three hours, twelve pages, and many offers of food/drinks/cake from my neighbor, I was finished.

Next day- Science fair: I hitched a ride from my friend to the fair, set up my board, and was gone in fifteen minutes. We were to come back in six hours. SIX HOURS. THAT'S HOW LONG IT WOULD TAKE TO JUGDE. Later, we came back, and low and behold….My display board proudly showed a blue ribbon.

The next day, my computer genius friend took over my laptop for about an hour, and when I got it back, the blasted software was tamed.

I finished the report. And the book. And got an A.

And my darling pups – CeeCee and Joy- recovered from their surgery ju
st fine.

That's my good news. I hope your reading it made you feel as good as my living it.

Lots of Love, Kris/avid reader/Science fair winner

Thank you, Kris! And congratulations on getting all that done. Your life sounds a lot like mine right now (minus the science fair part)—Love, Meg

GOOD NEWS FOR PEOPLE TRYING TO GAIN WEIGHT:
I went to the doctor and learned I gained two pounds. Yes, I'm proud about that!

Thank you for sharing, Anonymous! Congrats on achieving your goal—Love, Meg

Last year, in eight grade, I had failed it.
But..

YAY!!!

Natalie (AKA Nani)

Yay for Nani! That is all awesome news!—Love, Meg

GOOD NEWS FOR CANADIANS:
Dear Mrs. Cabot
I have some good news! (Well, at least for Canadians like me)
CANADA WON THE CURLING CHAMPIONSHIP TODAY! Well, that's the news. If you ever read this, you are a great author and your books are always being read by my friends and I. You are an example for a 10-year-old like me who might want to be an author on the side. If you ever read this, (I Know you are very busy). And some more good news is that today I bought 3 of your books. You are an awesome author. You rock! I hope someday you will read this… Sincerely, A reader
P.S,
Did I mention your books ROCK?

Well, thank you, Reader! And congrats to Canada!—Love, Meg

More later.

Much love,

Meg
