I don’t know which made me feel more weepy, Tori Spelling’s memorial to her beloved pug Mimi La Rue on Tori and Dean, Home Sweet Hollywood, or CuteOverload’s tribute the other day to The Cat House on the Kings, California’s largest no-cage, no-kill, lifetime cat sanctuary and adoption center.
The Cat House on the Kings mission: to place rescued cats and kittens into loving, permanent homes; to provide a safe, happy and healthy home for unwanted cats and kittens in a unique, no-cage facility; to prevent pet overpopulation through spaying and neutering; and to educate the public about responsible pet ownership.
Since its founding 16 years ago, The Cat House on the Kings has saved over 16,000 cats and 4,000 dogs (not counting the 40,000 animals they have spayed and neutered!) and currently cares for more than 700 cats and kittens!
Watch the inspirational film (you’ll cry…but in a good way!) here:
That said, this morning my husband’s cat Gem was shrieking like something was killing her in the kitchen. I ran for the phone for the vet, thinking she’d been poisoned.
But it turned out she was crying because a lizard she’d brought inside was cowering for safety under the stove and she couldn’t reach him anymore and she wanted us to help her out with that.
We rescued the lizard and let him go outside (she’d only consumed part of his tail) and told Gem if she was only going to eat them, her friends wouldn’t want to come over anymore.
Gem responded to this advice by licking her butt.
