The contest ends January 31. Let’s see what you can come up with!

Here are a few more contests: Book Chic is hosting a give away later today, along with a very insightful interview, and a lovely review, and as always, you can win copies here at megcabot.com!

Once I win a copy of Princess Mia, I’ll be a star! A star, I tell you!

And now, here’s a bit of what YOU’RE saying about Princess Mia, straight from my inbox (all emails guaranteed real, though slight editing has been done for brevity and to protect the anonymity of the sender):

Hi, Meg! I just wanted to say Princess Mia was the BEST Mia book ever! I just loved it can’t wait for the last book. I also can’t wait for the next Heather Wells book you said there will be a 4th book, right please say right, pretty please. Thanks!

Well, thanks! And you’re welcome. I will get to work on that Heather Wells book just as soon as I can.

I’m going to need a little celestial help if I’m ever going to write all the books I want to write!

Dear Meg,
I just bought Princess Mia today, and read it in about an hour and a half. I LOVED it! I pretty much devoured that book, I was so eager to get to the end. I also want to commend you on addressing the depression issue and therapy, etc, because most books don’t, and it will probably give a lot of girls who have been sitting around thinking they are insane or weird for feeling the same way new hope. Congrats on a great book! I can’t wait to read the next one.

Thanks! Yes, I went through a pretty bad depression myself as a teen (not over a boy, or having to rule a country…it was mostly over my 410 Math SAT score and the fact that my dad was a math PROFESSOR and he was so mad at me and kept saying I wasn’t ever going to amount to anything), and saw a therapist not unlike Dr. K. He helped a LOT, so I wanted to write a book with a character like him in it. He and his therapies (plus how depression feels) are guaranteed 100% based on my true experience.

I’ve never been depressed in my life. I’m made of plastic! And so is my dog. And so is my boyfriend!

Dear Meg, in your diary, it says Princess Diaries: To the Nines isn’t out ’til 7th of Jan in the UK. I have bought it today (27th) December. i bought it not online but from a shop. Why is this?

Hmmm, weird! Maybe I was misinformed? Or maybe it’s like in the US, some booksellers just put the book out early. Lucky you!

Enjoy a spot of tea, UK readers, and be sure to do it To The Nines!!

Dear Meg, My daughter is a fan of all your books and she just had to go to book store for Princess Mia on December 26. We went to Borders in Pleasanton, CA and were told it was in-transit. I can understand this so we went across the freeway to Barnes and Noble and were told that this book was not being released until January. The exact same thing occurred last year although the sales person was much more snobby and upset my daughter. I am just wondering why Pleasanton/Dublin, CA cannot get your books on time.

I’m sorry you had such an unpleasant shopping experience. I hope the reps from that area are reading this! What’s up, Borders and Barnes and Noble reps in Pleasanton, CA? And what’s with the needless snobbery? I used to work in a bookstore, you know, and you know who I was snobby to? NO ONE!

MOST booksellers are SUPER DUPER competent and nice, but every once in a while you get an incompetent and/or snotty one. I asked what was wrong with this one guy, once, and was informed he was that way because he was a frustrated novelist, angry that something with a tiara on its cover could get published when his 900 page book about a transvestite spy going undercover in Sixties Hollywood was constantly being rejected.

She could have been the best darned spy in the whole business! If only someone would notice!

Dear Mrs. Cabot, I really enjoyed your latest book, Princess Diaries IX: Princess Mia. Every time I read one of your books its almost like I’m well, like the quote on the back of your book, opening a new box of chocolates. The only thing about chocolates, is sometimes you like them so much you eat them too fast, then you want more. I just would sort of like to know, if its not too much trouble, when your planning on releasing the Princess Diaries next book. Cause I ate the whole box of chocolates, and now i want more. I really would apreaciate it.

Aren’t you sweet? Just like chocolates! I’m working on Princess Diaries Volume 10 now. I’m a bit behind because of some unexpected medical problems, but with luck it should be out around this time next year.

Will Mia be a bride in Forever Princess? As if! She’ll only be turning 18! And she lives in Manhattan, where people wait to go to college before they marry.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a book release without the simultaneous release of a new YouTube video, written by and starring me (of course), and directed, filmed, and edited by Brady Hall (you can read more about our adventures filming together here).

You can read an explanation of what’s going on in the video below (like why, for instance, our neighbor “gave us” her cat, now known as Gem, or Slutty McSlut-A-Lot), at the Harperteen blog, here.

All the dogs and cats you see pictured during this video are “dumped” pets someone I know has adopted. Adopting stray animals is super princessy. Mia—especially the Mia from Volume 9–would definitely approve.

Henrietta and Slutty McSlut-A-Lot say, “Mrrr-Enjoy!”

More later.

Much love,

Meg
