Grrls Who RockNovember 27th, 2006
Time for a giveaway!
In honor of my new book SIZE 14 IS NOT FAT EITHER coming out tomorrow, we're having a GrrlRocker giveaway!
As you may know by now, Heather Wells, the former-teen-popstar-turned-amateur-sleuth heroine of SIZE 12 IS NOT FAT is returning for an encore performance. And to celebrate this fact, the awesome band THE SWITCHBLADE KITTENS have sent me ten copies of their new CD (and a few fab tees) to give away to Heather's fans, other grrls who rock…
…which the Kittens very definitely do!
I have to confess, it's been a very tough year for me rockwise, because a lot of my favorite female musicians have been stabbing me in the back. Seriously. I just had to add Fergie to my list of people I can't listen to anymore: Which is a shame, because Fergalicious is a fun song to write to (and dance to).
But Fergie just announced in JANE magazine that she's not a feminist. Can you imagine Fergie not believing that women should get equal pay as men for the same work? Nice, Fergie!
I read a letter yesterday in the New York Times from some lady who thinks you can't wear pink and do the Bend-and-Snap from LEGALLY BLONDE and still be a feminist. Um, hello? WHAT? I wear pink all the time AND if I were single I would totally Bend-and-Snap (but since I'm taken of course I don't want to give anyone false hope that all these luscious poundies are still available).
Anyway, people who don't believe a girl can be girly and still be a feminist? They suck.
So now Fergie can join the ranks of Gwen Stefani, Bjork, and PJ Harvey as people whose albums I will no longer buy, because all of them have asserted in magazine interviews that they are not a feminists or do not believe in the feminist movement. Way to NOT rock, ladies!
And way to be good role models for future generations of women.
But fortunately we've still got the Kittens, who I'm quite certain advocate political, social, and economic equality with men…while still wearing pink! Purrrrrfect!
So if you'd like a brand new SWITCHBLADE KITTENS CD of your very own, Email me! with the words I WANNA ROCK! in the subject line (and a mailing address in the text of your message). The first ten people who e me will win!
And don't forget…copies of SIZE 14 IS NOT FAT EITHER go on sale in the US TOMORROW!!!
I think listening to the Kittens WHILE reading SIZE 14 would be the perfect entertainment combination….
